As part of KIRKAMBAR research project, this section focuses on pillar-shaped beehives, which are exceptional examples of rural architectural heritage in southwestern Turkey. Field research conducted between 2019 and 2024 revealed that two key factors are responsible for the rapid disappearance of these unique structures. One of the reasons for that is drought triggered by anthropogenic climate change and the accompanying ecological crisis. Consequently, the beehives are disappearing, taking with them not only their physical presence but also the traditional craftsmanship knowledge that forms part of the intangible cultural heritage associated with them. This situation points to an irreversible erosion of memory and a loss of heritage in Elmalı’s cultural landscape. This short video brings several interviews conducted with beehive owners in Elmalı, who talk about how climate change impacts beekeeping practices and therefore of the traditional beehives.
